OCL Vision, an eye-clinic based in Harley Street London, wanted to showcase its LASIK surgery service through the lens of a patient testimonial. Unlike most case studies, this one presented a rare opportunity: the patient agreed to take part before undergoing the surgery itself. As a referring doctor who knew the clinic’s reputation and had heard excellent feedback from his own patients, he was confident in the process and happy to share his journey. This created a unique brief where the entire experience, from consultation to surgery and recovery, could be captured on camera. The challenge lay in creating an authentic, patient-led story while working sensitively in clinical environments and ensuring the shoot did not disrupt medical procedures.

The production was designed across two carefully planned shoot days. The first captured b-roll of the patient’s consultation, his interactions with OCL’s team, and the surgery itself. Filming a live procedure is rarely possible for testimonial content, so the crew prepared extensively to operate discreetly without interfering with clinical work. A second shoot day followed, where the patient was interviewed post-surgery to reflect on his experience, ensuring a complete narrative arc.
To further contextualise the story, filming also took place at the patient’s own practice just a few doors away, grounding the testimonial in his daily life and underscoring why improving his eyesight was so important to him. A small two-person crew was selected to minimise disruption in tight consulting rooms and help the patient feel comfortable, while still capturing a diverse range of visuals. The interview was directed by an experienced producer to ensure key client messages were articulated in clear, concise soundbites, while also keeping the flow natural and compelling.

The final edit blended the authenticity of a real patient journey with the polish of professional production values. The rare inclusion of authentic surgery footage provided striking visuals that made the video stand out from more conventional testimonials. The interview, supported by strong contextual imagery, conveyed trust, expertise, and the life-changing impact of OCL Vision’s work.
The client was delighted with the finished video, which not only elevated the perception of the brand as a premium service provider but also resonated strongly with prospective patients. Plans are already in place to build on this success with further testimonial productions filmed in a similar style.

We’ve never been totally satisfied with the term branded content. It’s classic ambiguous marketing jargon which does very little to explain what it is, what it does or how/why to use it, so here are a couple of our thoughts on the value of branded video content.
