On 14th November 2019, Eurostar celebrated its 25th birthday.
A revolutionary feat of engineering, the longest undersea tunnel in the world decided to celebrate this milestone in style by holding a party at the Roundhouse in Camden, London.
The event organisers, Wonderland Creative Events and Production Agency, approached Dead Ready Productions with a brief to capture the action, atmosphere and excitement of the event, both for nostalgia and the Eurostar archive.
The venue was split into zones, themed around key Eurostar destinations, with a host of activities for guests, including mini golf, beer tasting, a photobooth, caricaturists and a plethora of continental delicacies.
Two camera operators initially filmed discreetly, capturing the guests naturally enjoying the party without directing the attendees in any way, but as the event got underway and attendees relaxed, we captured an increasing amount of posed and directed content.
To ensure a range of different shots were captured, the crew also used a variety of grip equipment, including a smooth motion gimbal. This helped the crew capture high energy moving shots that were essential to bringing the event video to life.
Knowing that we were producing a montage video without any spoken word content, it was critical that each shot propelled the story to ensure audience engagement was retained throughout.
This was achieved by carefully taking the audience on a tour of all of the zones, finding short sequences that told their own mini-stories, before ending with a number of big band shots, dancing and fireworks for the climax.
